Note: If your data file is open, you must close and reopen it. Once you've opened a company file using a particular version on QuickBooks, you cannot open it using an older version. In some cases, reentering the data may be quicker and easier. To quickly download Quicken, click the corresponding button for your operating system. For example, as I write this, Amazon is offering Quicken 2015 Deluxe for 42.41 and Staples for 44.99, while the Quicken site lists its discounted price at 64.99. If your file doesn't contain a lot of information, you may want to consider creating a new file and reentering the data. As in earlier years, I had found lower prices for Quicken at retailers - even allowing for the 10 discount - than if I bought directly from Intuit. If the file was created a few days ago, you may need to reenter some data. If the file opens, copy all its files to the folder where you usually keep your data. If you put a password on your data file recently, the password may not be on this backup copy of your data try opening this file. Quicken makes an automatic backup copy of your data every seven days and places it in the Quicken\BACKUP folder. If you don't have a regular backup to restore, try restoring an automatic backup. Rename the password-protected file before you begin so it remains untouched in case you recall the password later or need to send the file to Quicken for password removal. You'll need to manually add any data that you added to the password-protected file since the backup.

If you made a backup copy of the file before adding the password, restore that backup. Make sure that the Caps Lock key isn't on, and then retype the password, being careful to use the correct capitalization.
